So your holding the little grey button with your thumb and the cranking is slowing with every compression stroke. You’re still hoping that the engine will spring into life before you need to look for a hill to roll your bike down.

It’s time to bite the bullet and get one of these bad boys.

Firstly, if nothing more than to save over a kilo, which will cost you a small fortune on other aftermarket parts, this battery weighs just under 600grams out of the box. But the amazing thing is that is it! no adding distilled water or acid or whatever you had to do to maintain the old school lead acid based batteries.

Now KTM have caught on to this huge and simple saving in weight and have introduced a similar battery in there 2016 range, however i am unsure whether this is a lithium iron or lithium ion. Yes there is a difference. No I don’t have a quick answer. But yes here is a link to start you off before you go googling. Essentially the Li-Iron (the one with the R after the I in case you missed it the first time) is a newer technology.

Li-Iron vs Li-Ion Link

This Shorai unit has slightly smaller dimensions when compared to the orginal Yuasa YTX4l-BS battery, however,  there are a number of foam stickers that come in the box to help make a nice snug fit into the battery compartment. Also included in the box, a few stickers to bling up some window space on your truck or on your plastics if you are that way inclined!

In summary, money well spent as a replacement for a battery that might be on its last (electric) leg, however when considering how much it cost to cut weight with aftermarket bits, this battery unit is unbelievable value. I would probably like to try the LFX-14L2-BS12, the extra 75 odd cranking amps I think would give me some piece of mind after a long break in the shed or a cold morning. Then again, this one works fine for my 350 sx-f.
