Midea Air Conditioner 1.6 kw Wall Mount (MWF05CB4)

Midea Air Conditioner 1.6 kw

(MWF05CB4)

 Intro

I bought this unit to replace an old unit that finally gave up the ghost. It feels cheap but that isn’t to say that other competitors units now are any better. Few notes straight up:

  • The vent (recirculating/fresh air) mechanism is a very basic,  semi effective pivot lever slide cover.
  • There is no swing function.
  • Sliding chassis design
  • Still heavy at around 25 kg

Installation

The main unit slides into a chassis that you first mount. There are pros and cons to it. Just a few thoughts… Pros:

  • Helps with install. Slide the unit in after you have positioned the chassis.
  • Easy to replace if you get the same unit in the future.  Slide out, slide new in.

Cons:

  • Makes install difficult. Chassis can bend if you aren’t careful when installing. And sliding in the unit can be a bit awkward.  Saying that, the chassis/sliding unit is probably an easier install than if it where a one piece unit.
  • More gaps after install, harder to seal (where the unit and chassis have a gap).
User Manual

Couldn’t find a manual for this model, however after opening up the box and doing some further research , this is the user manual provided: http://www.mideaair.com.au/docs/mwh-09k12k_user.pdfPlease note: This manual appears to be for many different models so some of the details directly applies to this model and some doesn’t. This tells me this unit is probably repackaged and sold as a different brand in different places as I don’t think it even mentions “Midea” in the manual.

Other Notes
  •  The supplied remote feels very cheap – but it does work.
  •  The sleep function is kinda cool – still not sure how it works exactly but it seems to increase the temp by 1 degree c per hour for 2 hours and then changes the fan to low to make it quiet. Good for kids room.
  •  5 year warranty (assuming it will get honored if required) is hard to beat for price.
