Packed up at Keep River. Slow drive back to main road. We noticed as letter on our car from the ranger. Apparently the other ranger did lose his pocket knife. So dropped that off at the visitor center.
Quite stunning scenery as we got into Timber Creek shortly after. We visited the historic police station. The guy managing the place was Barry Burrows – Bazza! Seems like he has been running three place for a while. He was pretty enthusiastic about sharing what he knew and getting the kids involved. Had to semi yell to communicate with him though. Bazza reckons the place is probably gonna close down as they can’t get people to hang around and he is moving on soon. Like a lot of places around here.
Victoria River Roadhouse. Reminds me of a roadhouse you might see in America on the movies inside. Kinda cool. Lots of pics from from pre digital era. Maybe late 70s? Shortie 45 series landcruisers with no roof and bar work mustering a bull by ramming it. A helicopter flying under the old bridge. Crocs swimming in the water. Dark brown lined walls with orange stools.
Had a beer and dinner there which was what you’d expect. Kids played a bit of pool before heading for a short walk onto the old bridge. It must have got flooded a lot cause the new one right next to it is lots higher. The roadhouse flooded back in 1991 and the water was over the bar. That’s lots of water.
