20230816 Gibbs Goodbye

Not 100% sure what we are doing today as we aren’t sure how the trip back is gonna be.

As expected. Slow going out of the Gibbs with the caravan. 100kms took about 4 hours. But didn’t feel like any damage was being done. Lots of people over took me but whatever.

Even though we drove past these last time, this time we saw the grumpy old man rock, and Queen Victoria’s head as we drove past them.

Headed into Derby to stock up on some supplies and fuel up and empty the toilet. Had some amazing popcorn chicken from the servo. Not sure if it was just because we been in the wild or if they were actually really good.

Another drive heading toward fitzroy crossing. Probably got about 70kms away from Fitzroy but that’s enough for today. Probably 8 hours of driving. Nice little stop, Ellendale station Lake. More driving tomorrow.

Overall, the Gibbs is pretty awesome, but don’t think it is really for me with a caravan. Sure it can be done and heaps of people do it and say it’s fine.

Would have loved to stay a night or two at Manning.

In hindsight I think there are three things I’d do different other than not take a caravan in there. 1 -Snorkel for the car. 2 – breather hoses for diffs and gearbox 3- different wheels. Probably 17 inch steelies, with a high profile to help absorb the corrugation. However, can’t complain with the pajero for anything else up to the Gibbs with the way it has been setup. Everything has it’s pros and cons.
