Travel day toward the Gibbs River. About 200kms, and staying just outside Derby, where we are gonna top up fuel.
We stopped to see the Boab Prison tree, which had quite a large cavity/hollow in it which was used to keep prisoners in. Also some other history here around some aboriginal ‘rebel’ leader and the longest cattle trough which is fed by a bore and wind mill. During the second world war, a pool was made utilizing this bore water to keep troops cool.
Birdwood Down is a nice little spot. Few chickens and peacocks running around which the kids got excited about. There was also what I think was a baby brown snake in the shower cubical.
Plan from here is to get about 200kms into the Gibbs, see a few gorges then back track out. See how we go.
