Went on a tour/cultural experience today with one member of a local tribe today. His name was Bolo. He took us to his tribe area which is situated on the east of the peninsula. He explained that there are about 5 tribes here which make up the mob.
Went through and saw where the fresh water spring was and drank from that with some crushed up leaves, tried catching a mud skipper but they are evasive little hoppers.
it was pretty interesting to hear which signs they use to know when they can harvest hunt and gather different animals plants and honey do as not to impact their surroundings. It also means they are eating things when they are in season and taste the best.
Ventured into the mangroves which was a bit of an adventure. Bolo found two decent sized mud crabs which we took for the cook up at the end along with some bomb shells. Following the creek which goes to the ocean was a bit concerning due to Crocs, though Bolo had the knowledge of what to keep an eye out for. Don’t think I’d be out here without him.
Kids seem to enjoy the mud and learning a bit about how people can live of the land. The cook up was pretty good. Oysters, crabs, fish, damper.
When we got back had to tighten the alternator belts on the car. Then the kids played with some other kids that were on the tour. They all got saturated with water guns but it is hot so they enjoyed that.
