Toyota Corolla ZZE122R
Replacement Headset

Back to
[Mechanical]

If you are looking for a cheap replacment headset to get bluetooth in your
car this is a great unit (I got this Kenwood DPX-U5130BT on sale for just
under $140 AUS)

I was looking at a JVC unit but by chance a fitter from the store started
talking to me. He suggested this unit for the Corolla (and I presume for
many other Toyotas) because..

It comes with two sets of mounting locations which allows the unit to sit
flush with the rest of the dash as well as a seperate facia to fit neatly
in the original space

I previously had a Pioneer, wasnt worth the effor for my car, plus,it
didnt have AM (sometimes known as MW) for listening to the cricket!!

If you are looking at fitting it yourself, use this as reference for
getting access and removal of the old unit.

The 10mm bolts can be a bit tough, just use some electrical tape in the
socket to hold it in place.

There is plenty of room to run the wired mic supplied with the Kenwood
unit along the passenger A-pillar lining then along the hood lining to
the rear view mirror where it just clips on. Very neat.

The A-pillar lining has two clips, pry GENTLY away starting from the
windshield side at the top. Once they came away, angle away from the
windshield and lift toward the ceiling of the car, it should come away
without too much effort. You may find taking the glove compartment out
to help locate the cabling for the instalment of the mic.

You can also cheat with the wiring (unless you enjoy soldering your
cables). Get the following from AERPRO, just plug the right one
into your original OEM wiring loom and the other into the headset then
plug them together, with your AERIAL and external mic (dont forget the
AERIAL).

Model for the Toyota : AERPRO APP0141
Model for the Kenwood: AERPRO APP8KE1

I should have taken a photo before I used them, but I was pretty keen
to see if this was gonna work. I got these from my local auto store for
$15 AUS each. Total of $30 AUS. Yeah, I am not the neatest when it comes
to hard wiring, so money and time well spent for me.

Hot tip, check everything is working correctly before you start putting
things back together. Check it again after you screw the headset into
place, then complete the re-assmebly

Only thing with this unit so far is there is no digital radio from what
I can see. Maybe this will be a new model.
